The department was established in 2014 following the initiative of Izhvodokanal (water utility). The main aim of the department is to improve the education quality by using the research results in the study process, new knowledge and achievements of science and engineering, by extending the research principle of teaching and research component of the study process, staff provision for research conducted in the interests of Izhvodokanal and other housing & utility infrastructure companies of the region.

Department of Technospheric Safety was established in 1952 as Section of Labor Protection at Department of Economics and Organization of Industry. Department of Labor Protection was set up in 1979. The field of professional activities of the graduates comprises provision of human safety in modern world; formation of technosphere comfortable for human life and work; minimization of technospheric effect on natural environment; preservation of human life and health due to the application of modern technical means, control and forecasting methods.

Department of Water Supply and Water Preparation was established in 1994 on the basis of Department of Hydraulics and Heat Engineering. The Department trains human resources in the field of water supply and water discharge, as well as specialists in hydraulics, water preparation and constructional physics for other engineering specialties of the university.

From 2008 the Department realizes the double degree bachelor program «Urban Water and Heat Engineering» developed together with Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Germany). Six students of Kalashnikov ISTU have already received two diplomas – Russian and German.

Research Areas:

• Use of the efficiency diameter concept as applicable to pressure and stress liquid flows
• Development of algorithms for automated calculation of water supply and water discharge systems
• Intensification of processes of biological purification of waste water
• Development of compact units for waste water purification in small settlements
• Rehabilitation methods of reconstruction of collectors of water discharge systems
• Development of automated system of pneumatic and hydraulic drives design
• Ecological issues of water supply and water discharge<
• Development of technical means of water disinfection
• Identification of gas-dynamic and power characteristics of aggregates of heat and pneumatic engines
• Technical and ecological issues of hydro- and gas-purification, including utilization of items of rocket and space engineering
• Development of multi-component control-measuring devices for diagnostics of items of space engineering

Scientists of the Department take part in the implementation of Republican program «Pure Water for the Population of the Udmurt Republic» and development of program «Pure Water in Izhevsk», development of specialized subprogram of the Government of the Udmurt Republic «Resource-Saving and Ecology» and program of the Committee on Science, Higher and Secondary Education of the Government of the Udmurt Republic «Engineering Problems of Energy- and Resource-Saving».

Department of Heat Power Engineering

Research Areas:

• Development of theory and calculation methods of heat-and-mass exchange in multi-phase gas-liquid media
• Investigation and optimization of work processes in pulse heat machines

Scientists of the Department take part in the development of specialized subprogram of the Government of the Udmurt Republic “Resource-Saving and Ecology” and program of the Committee on Science, Higher and Secondary Education of the Government of the Udmurt Republic “Engineering Problems of Energy- and Resource-Saving”.

Institute of Power Engineering

Director Anna Abramova, Assoc. Prof., CScThe institute (former Faculty of Heat Engineering) was founded in 2003 on the basis of the Department of Hydraulics and Heat Engineering.
