The Udmurt Republic is a sovereign republic within the Russian Federation.
It is situated in the western part of the Middle Urals between the rivers Kama and Vyatka. The republic covers an area of 42.1 thousand sq. km that is 0.25 % of the total area of the Russian Federation.
On January 1st, 1995 the population of Udmurtia was 1.64 million people.
There are 5 cities (Izhevsk: 655.3 thousand people, Votkinsk: 103.9 thousand people, Glazov: 106.7 thousand people, Mozhga^ 48.2 thousand people, Sarapul: 109.9 thousand people) and 25 regions in the Republic.
The Head of the Republic is its President, Alexander Volkov.
In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Udmurtia, the Supreme Council of the Udmurt Republic and the Council of Ministers, the government of the Udmurt Republic, are supreme bodies of the state power and administration.
The Udmurt Republic has its national symbols - an emblem, flag and hymn.
The climate is temperate continental with an average temperature in January -13…-15 °C. Summer is warm here, with an average temperature in June +18…+20 °C.
Udmurtia is a native land of the great Russia composer Peter Chaikovsky. So, it is not incidental that Izhevsk has become the place where annual international musical festivals are held.
