The Department of Designing and Technological Preparation of Machine-Building Production was created on September 1, 1956. The period from 1956 to 1966 can be called the first stage in the establishment of the department. During this period of time, laboratories of measurement technology, enginering technology were organized, resourse base of the department was improved, and staff was trained.

Research activity

Lecturers of the Department are actively engaged in the scientific work. Worked out scientific fields were formed on the base of performed researches and development activity. Research and development activity is doing under control of the leading scientists of the department (DSc, Prof., member of the Russian Academy on Natural Sciences V.I. Goldfarb, DSc, Prof. E.S. Trubachev, DSc, Prof. O.V. Malina, DSc, Prof. N.S. Sivtcev, DSc, Prof. V.G. Osetrov, etc.).

The Department in conjunction with the Institute of Mechanics is one of the leading departments of the university in research and development activity.

Scientists of the Department participate on the conferences at the highest level – the World Congress of the IFToMM, international conferences on gearing and transmissions, Russian conferences organized by Russian Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Education, etc.

The proof of the high scientific authority of the head of the Department, Prof. V.I. Goldfarb, is his election to the managing board of IFToMM, to the program committees of congresses and international conferences.

The number of students, Master students and PhD students, onvolved in research and development activity is constantly increasing. Students’ scientific research is the part of education process when students do course and diploma projects. Final and intermediate results of the researches are reported by students at scientific seminars, conferences. The best works are selected to participate in competitions and conferences at the higher levels.
