The Department of Metal Technology and Metal Science was created in 1952, the year of our university founding. Currently, the department is training the students of 9 faculties and 35 specialties.
The following laboratories works in the Department: metallographic analysis, heat treatment, mechanical testing, metal forming, welding processes, machining, hand molding, melting and casting in a sand-clay molds, mold materials testing, special methods of molding, fitting, press and mechanical shops.
The following research activity in the field of Material Science is conducted:
- Improvement of the structural strengh of the components, obtained by the forging with the use of local area of plactic deformation (rotary extrusion, rolling stamping, back rolling) on the scheme of thermomechanical strengthening (fluid power cylinders, body parts, high-pressure cylinders).
- Forming of the dispersed structure in structural steels and alloys by the scheme of thermomechanical processing with the use of pressing, isothermal and liquid stamping (fittings, pistons of internal combustion engine, sections).
- Implementation of the substructural stregthening effect using induction heating on steels with K60 and K70 for joint parts of oil and gas pipelines.
