Center of Surface Processing Technologies is open!

2013 06 20 img2611On June 18 the International Collective Research Center “Center of Surface Processing Technologies” was solemnly opened at Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University.

The International Center has been organized for theoretical and practical training of students and retraining of people from industry specializing in galvanization. The advanced environmentally friendly technologies are realized in the Center.

The Center of Surface Processing Technologies has been established on the reciprocally principles between our university, HTW Aalen, Germany, Zeh GmbH, Stuttgart, Germany and MKV GmbH, Allersberg, Germany.

2013 06 20 img1520In his opening address Boris Yakimovich, Rector of Kalashnikov ISTU highlighted the importance of the event:

- Today’s event is significant not only for our university and industry of the Udmurt Republic but for the integration of educational systems of Russia and Germany as well. The international laboratory, which we are opening today, is very important for our industry and engineering education in general. Many technical universities establish their own collective research centers but they look alike. Today we are opening the second unique center. The Collective Research Center “Innovative Technologies of Material Artistic Processing” has already gained good reputation: international students come to have training there. I believe the Center of Surface Processing Technologies, which we are opening today with our German partners, will be in high demand as well. Due to the research component introduced into the study program, we’ll significantly improve the training of human resources.

2013 06 20 img366After that Gerhard Schneider, Rector of HTW Aalen addressed the audience. In his speech our German partner and friend thanked the colleagues for the hearty welcome and expressed his view of the international cooperation in the frameworks of the project:

- In the conditions of globalization it is very important for our universities to take care of training up-to-date human resources. Our graduates have to be in tune with the requirements of today’s companies all over the world. The collaboration between universities plays a crucial role in solving this task. We respect the achievements of Russia in the sphere of modern technologies. These achievements have become possible mainly owing to such universities as yours. It is equally important to develop mobility programs between our universities as the continuation of opening this Center. I would like to point out that our Center satisfies all modern environmental safety requirements.

2013 06 20 img309The importance of the project for the Udmurt Republic was demonstrated by the participation of Yury Pitkevich, Chairman of the Government of the Udmurt Republic in the ceremony. On behalf of Alexander Volkov, the President of the Udmurt Republic, he greeted the audience and marked the role of galvanization for the Republic:

- The role of machine-building for our Republic can hardly be overestimated. I understand that galvanic production is not easy from ecological point. But together we can get good results in this area. When plants are introducing new technologies – it’s good, but without well-trained up-to-date personnel we won’t get the expected results. Therefore the today’s opening is a large step forward for the future development of our Republic.

The logical continuation of this remarkable event was the signing of cooperation agreement between two universities: Kalashnikov ISTU and HTW Aalen.

Before signing the agreement, Gerhard Schneider pointed out that all universities are similar but he was sure to find specific positions, areas in cooperation that would be realized:

 - Today we have the first result of our project. But what can be better than this when we already have the laboratory that operates and can bring positive results. We hope to see the laboratory in operation next time. I feel this is a very good base for the development of new projects and our cooperation. I figured out the percentage of common areas between our universities – and according to my calculations we have seven matches out of eleven. Also we discussed with Prof. Pletnev the possibility of organizing the business incubator which is also attractive for us. But first of all, we need initiative people interested in such “exchange”. Therefore we should carefully discuss the next steps in this sphere. For instance, in master programs, research, and we should definitely try to get the EU support – to attract external financial resources. We have many plans and opportunities.

It should be mentioned that Kalashnikov ISTU is ready to send our researchers to HTW Aalen to work on wonderful modern equipment. And the internship of young researcher Alexey Bazhin will be the beginning of cooperation in the field of science and technologies.

2013 06 20 img465The German delegation participating in the ceremony of signing the cooperation agreement comprised: Gerhard Schneider, Rector of HTW Aalen, Ekbert Hering, Emeritus Rector of HTW Aalen, Doctor Honoris Causa of Kalashnikov ISTU, Horst Dettinger, CEO of Zeh GmbH, Ingrid Dettinger, CFO of Zeh GmbH, Rainer Toma, CEO of MKV GmbH, Beate Kummer, PR Director of Scholz Gruppe and Tanja Eberhardt, interpreter.

Thus, the new project has started targeted, first of all, at training highly skilled specialists. We should learn how to cooperate: master students – to do research, and the German company that produces the modern equipment – to promote their products for the sake of society, since all researches should be eventually practicable – research results should be materialized in a final product.
