Kalashnikov ISTU - Chinese Higher School: new perspectives of collaboration
In the beginning of November Prof. Boris Yakimovich, Rector of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University had a meeting with Plenipotentiary Minister, Advisor for Education and First Secretary for Education in the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Russia.
Today the cooperation in education and research with Chinese partners plays an important role in the international activity of Kalashnikov ISTU. Although the Chinese universities have appeared on the list of our international partners quite recently, the partnership development is in progress. During the meeting in the Embassy, Prof. Boris Yakimovich described the experience of Kalashnikov ISTU in collaboration with HEIs from China as part of Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities, partnership with Harbin Institute of Technology, Russia-China Foundation for Education and Culture.
Mr. Zhao Gochen, Plenipotentiary Minister, Advisor for Education and Mr. Mai Hanchen, First Secretary for Education highly appreciated the work of Kalashnikov ISTU in the field of Russian-Chinese collaboration and promised to help the university with increasing the number of Chinese exchange students through cooperation with governmental institutions, public foundations and commercial organizations. They also reached an agreement about establishing Russian-Chinese University (by analogy with Egypt-Russian University). The founders of this university will be Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University and one of Chinese universities, as recommended by the Embassy of People’s Republic of China.
Kalashnikov ISTU has been a full member of Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU) from 2011 and it is actively participating in all arrangements and events of ASRTU. One of the latest events took place in the end of September: Dr. Alexander Elensky, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Accreditation participated in ASRTU convention in St. Petersburg. Apart from the membership in ASRTU, Kalashnikov ISTU is building up its strategy in the field of Russian-Chinese collaboration. From 2012 under the project of ASRTU, the Government of China has been awarding scholarships for graduates of Kalashnikov ISTU who make master or PhD in Harbin Institute of Technology. In March 2014, Kalashnikov ISTU and Harbin Institute of Technology signed the agreement of cooperation in the field of education, research and academic exchange. At the moment, Dr. Yury Tokarev, Associate Professor of the Department of Geo-Engineering and Constructional Materials of Kalashnikov ISTU has an internship there and Anna Belykh, a teaching assistant of the Department of English Language teaches Russian in a Chinese secondary school.
Also it is planned that a delegation of Russian schools in China will visit Kalashnikov ISTU in the middle of November following the recommendation of Russia-China Foundation for Education and Culture.
