On April 24, Director of Russian Educational Center Dr. Ali Waris Shah Syed visited Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University.

The Russian Education Center with the headquarters in Belgorod has been sending international students from Asia, Africa and China to Russian higher educational institutions for more than a decade. The purpose of the director’s visit was a more detailed acquaintance with the capabilities and potential of our university to teach foreign students in English, with educational programs and training areas that the university can offer, as well as the living conditions for future students.

During his visit, the guest, in the format of a round-table discussion, met with Rector of Kalashnikov ISTU Prof. Valery Grakhov, Vice-Rectors for Studies and Social Development, representatives of the Faculties of Information Science and Civil Engineering, Institute of Translators, Department of International Education and Cooperation, Department of Social Work in University Dormitories and other structures responsible for education and life of international students at our university.

The foregoing faculties were chosen not accidentally. The interests of Russian Educational Center and those who seek to obtain higher education in Russia through its mediation, as noted Dr. Ali Waris Shah Syed, today lie primarily in technical areas, in particular, such as construction, electronics, computer software and mechatronics. The experience of the same preparation and training in English (this is a necessary condition) our faculties have gained during several years are unique. Among the most successful projects are the cooperation with the Egyptian-Russian University, training on the programs of two diplomas with universities in Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Republic of Belarus.

Of course, it is assumed that foreign students should study the Russian language while studying at a Russian university. And, ideally, they will be able to defend the diploma projects not only in English, but also in Russian. This is not an obligatory condition, but, as practice demonstrates, an achievable goal.

While the representative of the Russian Educational Center expressed interest in bachelor programs. But the potential of Kalashnikov ISTU is much richer – the university is developing master programs, and, according to Vice-Rector for Studies Prof. Vladimir Khvorenkov, which released several foreign masters, this direction is very promising.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to recruit two groups of foreign students in bachelor programs «Computer Science» and «Civil Engineering» at the beginning of the upcoming academic year.
