The Department of Strengh of Materials, formed in 1953, is one of the oldest ones in Kalashnikov ISTU. The Department today is the team of highly qualified staff, including three doctors of sciences, professors and three candidates of sciences, associate professors.
Currently about 1,000 students of 5 faculties and 13 specialties study at the Department. In order to improve the quality of teaching and training the professionals, to increase the students’ interest in learning and career, to attract the talanted students to the research, since 2007 the Department conducts two rounds of student olympiad on the course of “Strengh of Materials”.
Since 2010 “Research Center” works at the Department. Center spesialists works, using analytical and numerical calculation methods. Using the ANSYS software the following activitity is performed:
- Calculation of stress and strain state of parts and construction elements;
- Assessment of the strengh, rigidity and stability;
- Calculation of natural frequencies.
In addition lecturers of the department perform the testing of research and dissertation papers, regulatory, operational and design documentation, and training and consulting the building organizations, industrial enterprises and specialists engaged in scientific work on the areas mentioned above.
The main task of educational and methodological work of the Department is to improve the quality of students training. The department pays a great attention to the organization and educational and methodological support of the educational process.
Modern teaching methods based on the computer technologies are widely used reading the lectures and in practical works.
