With the Day of Friendship, brothers!
April 2 – Unity Day of Belorussian and Russian people.
It was on this date in 1996 when then Presidents of Russia and Belorussia Boris Yeltsin and Alexander Lukashenko signed the Agreement “On Education of Russian and Belorussian Community” in Moscow that gave the start to official interstate relations.
In a year, on April 2, 1997, the Agreement “On the Union of Belarus and Russia” was signed that was the inspiration for the process of overall integration of two countries, the Charter of Belarus and Russia was accepted in May, and on December 25, 1998 the Presidents of Russia and Belarus signed the Declaration “On further unity of Russia and Belarus”. The Agreement “On the Union of Belarus and Russia” was considered cancelled from the date the Agreement on the Foundation of Common State was enforced on December 8, 1999.
Nevertheless, as usual, the relations between people of both countries are expressed in so-called “people democracy”. Although the national sovereignty is preserved, Russians and Belorussians remain friends and brothers.
The cooperation between Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University and Belorussian National Technical University (at that time, Belorussian Polytechnic Academy) started in 2001, and in the following year the Belorussian delegation visited Izhevsk. In spring 2003 the first filed-and-track race Izhevsk-Minsk dedicated to the Victory Day was organized, in which the teams of Kalashnikov ISTU and BNTU took part. Now such annual event is traditional.
The cooperation in cultural-sportive sphere laid the foundation of the collaboration in education and research, and today BNTU is one of the strategic international partners of Kalashnikov ISTU.
