The delegation of our strategic partner – Brno University of Technology – has been working in Izhevsk from June 11 to June 15, 2013. The delegation is very representational: Karel Rais, Rector, Petr Štěpánek, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development, Irena Armutidisová, Vice-Rector for Marketing and External Relations, Miroslav Doupovec, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Petra Navrátilová, Director of the Center of Education and Counseling and Josef Jirkal, Head of the Marketing Department.
The program of the visit is filled with research and educational events, participation in the festivities dedicated to the Day of Russia and Opening of the monument to Nadezhda Durova – the first lady officer, heroine of the Great Patriotic War of 1812.
However, the most significant event of the visit was signing the agreement for a double degree that took place on June 12 in the conference room of Kalashnikov ISTU during the meeting of BUT delegation with the rector, vice-rectors and deans. It should be pointed out that despite the holiday mood, the meeting was official and contained certain proposals.
The cooperation between Kalashnikov ISTU and Brno University of Technology started in February 2002 when the Framework Agreement was signed. The new agreements followed in 2007 and 2012. The agreements cover the areas of academic and student mobility, as well as research collaboration and Czech language study. A number of faculties and one branch of Kalashnikov ISTU signed bilateral agreements with their counterparts in Brno.
During the meeting Boris Yakimovich, Rector of Kalashnikov ISTU addressed the participants: “Such collaboration is very important for us. Today there is a high demand in skilled specialists all over the world, those able to compete in many engineering areas, such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, informatics. We have recently signed the agreement with CEITEC (Central European Institute of Technology in Brno) to cooperate in the field of nanotechnology. We have a lot of topics of mutual interest. Therefore let us solve our common problems on this red-letter day”.
In turn, Karel Rais, Rector of Brno University of Technology pointed out: “We are very interested in your students who will defend their graduation projects in Czech Republic and continue working in joint research centers. We are ready to provide them with accommodation and pay some scholarships. Our university invested a billion of Czech crowns into the construction of new buildings, in particular, we constructed a few new buildings for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication. Thereforeweareopen, weneedpeople”.
Alexander Vakhrushev, the Head of the Laboratory of Nanostructure Mechanics of the Institute of Mechanics, Ural Division of Russian Academy of Science shared the main achievements and expressed the professional interest in the equipment available at CEITEC. The deans of Kalashnikov ISTU wished to strengthen the efficiency of interaction with Czech colleagues.
Continuing the discussion, Boris Yakimovich pointed out the main directions of further cooperation with foreign partners: 1. Work in the field of nanotechnologies in construction; 2. Creation of the satellite of Kalashnikov ISTU; Belorussian National Technical University and Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne already demonstrated their interest in this project; 3. Work in the field of economics: Russia joined WTO, therefore it is necessary to adopt the economic experience of Czech colleagues through student and methodology exchanges.
Another specific step in strengthening the collaboration was signing the agreement for a double degree. As Alexander Elensky, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Accreditation of Kalashnikov ISTU mentioned, the agreement to be signed contains the detailed and clear order how the diplomas will be issued: “This agreement is a starting point after which we will work in a new way”. Besides, it specifies the study programs – “Electronics design and technology” at Kalashnikov ISTU and “Microelectronics” at BUT.
After signing the agreement, Boris Yakimovich summarized the meeting saying that our universities and students will be together for many years.
