Famous German scientist read lectures to future builders

Dr. FischerSome days ago students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering attended lectures of the famous German scientist, doctor of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Germany) Hans Fischer.

Dr. Fischer arrived in Izhevsk following the invitation of the Head of Department of Geo-Engineering and Construction Materials Prof. Grigory Yakovlev. They have known each other for 25 years and have scientific-educational connections. PhD students of the Department of Geo-Engineering and Construction Materials of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University have internships in the University of Weimer, scientists of two universities have joint researches in the fields of construction materials, they work together on projects, publications and monographs.

Hans Fischer, the leader of many scientific projects, spent a number of years of his activity working on one of the prime construction cementing material - gypsum plaster in different aspects. Development of the research methods, practice of unusual concepts became the basis for Dr. Fischer’s researches and determining delicacy of hydration, gypsum crystallization with consolidation, revelation of the roles and influence of admixtures, which includes nanosized range. After the years of research, he published more than 150 works, made a lot of reports in Germany, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and Russia.

That was the second visit of Dr. Fisher to Izhevsk - first time he visited our city with the invitation of Prof. Yakovlev about 8 years ago.

- This is the prolongation of our relationships and we don’t want to stop it, - said Grigory Yakovlev. - In Russia Dr. Fisher had a big program. He read lectures in Irkutsk, made reports at the conference in Nizhny Novgorod, after the course in Izhevsk he went to Kazan.

During some days Hans Fisher read ten lectures in Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University to the students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Dr. Fischer perfectly speaks Russian, which can be easily explained: in 1988 he graduated from Kharkov Polytechnic Institute. So he knows not only the language, but all special aspects of Russian student’s brotherhood.

- Students are the same everywhere, in the whole world, - he said with a smile to the question about differences between the students in Izhevsk and students in Weimer. - Everyone is trying to study - someone a little bit more than the others. But always, when colleagues from abroad are coming, students are attending the classes with a big interest. For some reason, students think that we, professors abroad, know something better. But in reality it’s of course not like that, because our colleagues in Russia, including Izhevsk, have a very high scientific and educational level. PhD students also have deep knowledge.
