Quarter-final of the World Programming Championship took place at Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University
On October 10-11 the quarter-final of the World Sport Programming Championship among student teams ACM ICPC Eastern (Ural) region was hosted by Kalashnikov ISTU.
With the success of the Ural Championship 2014 in April, Kalashnikov ISTU became the place for another big sport programming competition among student teams – the quarter-final ACM ICPC Eastern (Ural) region which includes universities of Bashkiria, Chelyabinsk, Komi Republic, Kurgan, Orenburg, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and Udmurt Republic.
For the first time, the quarter-final took place in 2 different places – the previous competitions were hosted by Ural Federal University (Yekaterinburg). The split into several places is a normal practice, for example, for Moscow (competitions are take place in Lomonosov Moscow State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) where there are a lot of students who would like to participate in the next round of NEEERC ACM ICPC.
The Organizing Committee received 128 requests. But only 15 teams from ISTU, a team of Udmurt State University and a team of Tyumen State Oil and Gas University participated in the competition.
On the first day (October 10) after the official opening of the competition, the teams had a trial round, so they got to know their work places and tuned special equipment. On October 11 they had the main round of the competition.
The competition was sponsored by Sberbank of Russia. Representatives from the Government and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Udmurt Republic were among the guests of the official ceremony.
As a result, three teams of Kalashnikov ISTU, one team of Udmurt State University and one from Tyumen SOGU got into the next round which will take place in St. Petersburg. The first place was given to the team of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University (Naimushin, Poskrebyshev, Sutygin).
The organization of the quarter-final demonstrated one more time that our university has very good skills of organizing competitions and good students’ potential.
