Kalashnikov ISTU and Scholz Gruppe: prospects of cooperation

Kalashnikov ISTU and Scholz Gruppe: prospects of cooperationIn October the delegation of Scholz Gruppe (Germany) visited Kalashnikov ISTU. Scholz Gruppe – the group of companies, which provides new solutions and technologies in the field of recycling and production waste treatment.

Kalashnikov ISTU and Scholz Gruppe: prospects of cooperationThe goal of their visit to Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University was to see the possibilities and potential of the University for developing common project in the field of recycling and environmentally friendly treatment of production waste. In June 2013 the International Collective Research Center “Center of Surface Processing Technologies” in the field of progressive environmentally friendly surface processing technologies was opened at Kalashnikov ISTU in cooperation with Hochschule Aalen, Zeh GmbH, Stuttgart, Zeh Metallveredelungs GmbH and MKV GmbH, Allersberg with the financial support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Science. It became a successful project of academic Russian-German collaboration. And the partnership has continued – in the form of new interesting suggestions of German colleagues, but only this time – in the field of recycling.

The German delegation, consisting of Beate Susanne Kummer, PR Director, Karl Hermann Bruch, Managing Director of ScholzAlu and Friedrich Franz Thürauer, Consultant of Scholz Austria, visited the International Collective Research Center “Center of Surface Processing Technologies” and OJSC “Izhstal”. The results of the visit were summarized at the meeting with Alexander Korshunov, Vice-Rector for Research of Kalashnikov ISTU, Boris Sevastyanov, Head of the Department of Life Safety, Alexey Ryabchikov, Head of the Department of International Education and Cooperation and Alexander Bobkov, Head of the Department of Public Relations.

Kalashnikov ISTU and Scholz Gruppe: prospects of cooperationThe guests of the University shared their impressions of visiting OJSC “Izhstal” and laboratories of Kalashnikov ISTU, stressing the actuality of recycling in the modern world and important role of universities in research and development of new technologies. According to Beate Susanne Kummer, Scholz Gruppe is investing millions for the acquisition of modern facilities in their branches and the research aspect is very important. Therefore companies working with research and production are interested in international collaboration with higher educational institutions with established laboratories.

But a future recycling laboratory should not be sector-specific and meet the interests of one or two companies: ideally it should solve important problems of production, proceed recycling and, at the same time, train professionals in this field. But, as German experts commented, for creating the laboratory, tests and assay of chemical makeup of slag and waste are necessary. Boris Sevastyanov assured the German colleagues that tests and assays will be sent to them as soon as possible.

- When we get the full data of the tests, we can apply for funding the project of laboratory formation, said Beate Kummer. - And we will be glad to collaborate with Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University, because we can see the results of previous projects, sociability of your university and readiness of collaboration with German partners.
