Russian and Chinese universities: Perspectives of cooperationOn April 6-17, 2015 Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University hosted the delegation of the Embassy of China in Moscow – Mr. Zhao Gochen, Plenipotentiary Minister, Advisor on Education and Mr. Tan Dafeng, Third Secretary on Education.

The cooperation in research and education between Kalashnikov ISTU and Chinese partners has started quite recently, but it’s one of the priorities in international activities of our university both in Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU) and in developing partner relations with Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and Russian-Chinese Foundation of Culture and Education.

Since 2012 Chinese government has been allocating scholarships for ASRTU member universities and currently 3 graduates of our university are doing their master and PhD studies at HIT, and 4 more will start their studies at HIT in September 2015. In November 2014 Prof. Boris Yakimovich, Rector of Kalashnikov ISTU had a meeting with Mr. Zhao Gochen, Plenipotentiary Minister Advisor on Education in the Embassy of China in Moscow.

During two days Chinese colleagues visited International collective research center “Center of Surface Processing Technologies”, collective research center of the Faculty of Advertising and Design “Innovative Material Processing Technologies”, scientific library and brand new student designing bureau of space instrumentation engineering.

During the meeting Mr. Zhao Gochen handed a business card of Prof. Xiaofeng Wang, President of Nanjing University of Science and Technology interested in establishing partner relations with Kalashnikov ISTU.

It was pointed out that today about 17,000 Chinese students are educated in Russia, and about 16,000 Russian students – in China. This is approximately the 5-6th position in the number of international students in China. Some of them have governmental scholarships – about 1,600 Chinese students and about 1,500 Russian students. This is the 1st position among international students, which demonstrates great interest of the two governments to extending cooperation between our countries. The joint governmental plan of our countries – up to 100,000 students from Russia and China to be involved in all types of academic exchange programs by 2020.

Russian and Chinese universities: Perspectives of cooperationNot less important is the cooperation in research which involves individual scientists, scientific groups and universities in general. For sure, direct contacts are the most reliable in strengthening international links and developing friendly relations, and work on joint projects. There are some good examples – Russian-Chinese University being built in Shenzhen; partners of the project – Lomonosov Moscow State University, Beijing Institute of Technology and administration of Shenzhen. The construction is financed by the city, 50% of teachers will be from MSU. Another example – joint laboratory of Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Bauman Moscow State Technical University – these are similar laboratories in Nanjing and Moscow that will work in parallel on joint research projects.
