New partners of Kalashnikov ISTU: from China to Uzbekistan
Delegation of Kalashnikov ISTU visited technical universities of Shanghai, Nanjing and Tashkent.
On May 14-15 the conference of Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU) took place in Shanghai. It was hosted by Tongji University, one of the oldest universities in China, which is among top 100 leading universities of the world.
According to the Statute of ASRTU, permanent directorates are formed on the basis of Association from both sides: these are Harbin Institute of Technology in China and Bauman Moscow State Technical University in Russia). Since 2013, the headquarters of ASRTU have been located in Quingdao, the under-construction “Blue Silicon Valley” of China. Today ASRTU comprises 36 leading Russian and Chinese technical universities and 4 universities –associate members.
Kalashnikov ISTU has been a full member of Association from the beginning (2011) and active participant of all events. The delegation of Kalashnikov ISTU participated in the work of ASRTU meeting, which took place in May, 2015: Prof. Boris Yakimovich, Rector of Kalashnikov ISTU and Dr. Alexander Elensky, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Accreditation.
On May 14 the Photo Exhibition “Universities – ASRTU members during the anti-fascist war” took place as a part of ASRTU meeting program in commemoration of 70th anniversary of the victory in the Second World War and 70th anniversary of the victory of China in Second Sino-Japanese War. Rector of Tongji University, Prof.Pei Gan, Vice-Rector of Harbin Institute of Technology, Prof. Gen Nanzi, Vice-Rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Prof. Sergey Korshunov, Consul-General of Russia in Shanghai Andrey Smorodin and over 70 representatives of 30 Russian and Chinese universities visited the exhibition.
The exposition displayed archival photos of Russian and Chinese universities, and also Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, related to the contribution of the universities – ASRTU members to Great Victory. Kalashnikov ISTU presented materials about Izhevsk, the main armory of small arms of the USSR in 1941-1945 and battle-front veterans – employees and students of Izhevsk Mechanical Institute established after the war on 4 stands of exhibition.
On May 15 Sino-Russian Environmental Science and Ecological Protection Symposium took place and 20 representatives from Russian and Chinese universities made presentations. Prof. Boris Yakimovich in his presentation “Role of technical university in creating stable environment” introduced the project of creation of the academic cluster for specialists training for defense enterprises in the Udmurt Republic.
At the same day the regular meeting of ASRTU took place, where the results of the work of Association during one year and plans for the future were discussed. Usually, such meetings are arranged in turns in Russia and China, so the next meeting will take place in Perm on June 29 – July 2, 2015.
While in China Izhevsk our delegation visited Nanjing University, the biggest university of the province Jiangsu (www.njtech.edu.cn), and after that – two universities in Uzbekistan. Dr. Alexander Elensky commented that:
- Representatives of Chinese Embassy in Moscow had visited Kalashnikov ISTU in April. Particularly, Plenipotentiary Minister, Counselor for Education had promised to help in establishing contacts with Nanjing University, which is very similar to our university.
With the help of Chinese colleagues, we went 300 km further from Shanghai, we had a meeting with Prof. Xiaofeng, Rector of Nanjing University of Science and Technology and, as a result, we signed the agreement of cooperation between our universities. What is the most important – we reached the agreement about a group of 5-7 students from Nanjing, who will come to study at Kalashnikov ISTU.
Let us recall that Kalashnikov ISTU has got 27 state-funded places for international students on a competitive basis and this is quite a lot. For the reference, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Moscow) has got 65 places.
Of course, we know the level of competition in a world educational space and we know leaders of educational industry. For example, from the whole amount of Chinese students, who want to study abroad, only 2-3% want to go to Russia, furthermore, 300 thousand young Chinese students study in the USA.
Nevertheless, we are trying to achieve our goal, to organize courses in English, for example in the field of construction, for Chinese students. The fact is, students can come for two years and they don’t have an additional year for learning the language – this state-funded places are planned for those who have obtained a bachelor degree in Russia and already know the Russian language.
In Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, our colleague, Prof. Rail Galiakhmetov, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Law and Humanities joined our delegation. We had a meeting with representatives of Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) and made an arrangement about their assistance with the admission of Uzbek students.
Our delegation visited two Uzbek universities. We also had a meeting with Prof.Ravshan Saidahmedov, Rector of Tashkent State Technical University named after Abu Raykhan Beruniy and the meeting was very successful. We signed the agreement of cooperation between our universities and came to the agreement that Uzbek students will study at Kalashnikov ISTU in the next semester and our teachers will read lectures in TSTU – 1-2 semester courses in economics.
We also have another partner in Uzbekistan – Tashkent branch of the biggest university in Russia – Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. We were very warmly welcomed and received by Prof. Kalandar Abdurahmanov, Rector of the university. Then, in the frameworks of master-classes of theoretical-methodological workshop we made the following presentations: “Main trends in integration bonds of Russian universities in enhancing the study process quality” and “Methodological basics of studying the course “Labor Economics” in economic universities”. I believe these contacts and mutual interest in cooperation will serve as the basis of long-term and mutually beneficial business partnership.
