Delegation of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University visited Egyptian-Russian University

On October 8, the delegation of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University consisting of the Senior Vice-Rector Dr. Alexander Gubert and Director of the Institute of International Study Programs Dr. Alexey Ryabchikov visited Egyptian-Russian University (Egypt).

The main purpose of the visit was to discuss the continuation of the joint double diploma study programs and sign a new agreement on cooperation within this program.

Since the foundation of Egyptian-Russian University, our university has actively helped the formation and development of the educational process of the young university — first in the creation of curricula and work programs, then — in the organization of summer production practices in our laboratories and enterprises in Izhevsk; since 2010 — we have organized a semester-long inclusive training of Egyptian students, and in 2013 we began the implementation of a full-fledged double diploma program on the result of which 114 students of various specialties «Mechatronics and robotics», «Civil Engineering» and «Telecommunications» received not only a diploma of Egyptian-Russian University, but also a diploma of Kalashnikov ISTU.

At the beginning of the business meeting with the President of ERU Prof. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdelnaby, the participants honored the memory of the first President of Egyptian-Russian University, Doctor Honoris Causa of Kalashnikov ISTU Dr. Sherif Helmi Soliman, who would have turned 78 on October 11. In this regard, the meeting from the Egyptian side apart from the university administration (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Alaa El-Butch and Head of the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics Dr. Magdy Roman) was attended by Dr. Sherif’s brother Prof. Hussein Helmi.

All participants noted Dr. Sherif’s invaluable contribution to the development of cooperation between our universities, friendship and partnership of our countries. The unique combination of human, business and professional qualities, which he possessed, allowed solving any seemingly unsolvable problems, achieving high results in science and education. At the same time, efforts aimed at the development of ERU were useful for ISTU: they helped to organize the educational process in English across a range of specialties in our university, mobility for our teachers to give lectures at ERU, the International Conference «Nanotechnology in Construction» has been jointly arranged for 11 years.

Next, the participants moved on to discuss the issues of training students on double degree programs and terms of a new agreement on cooperation in the framework of this program. A number of issues were raised on both sides, and ways of their joint solution were proposed. In particular, it was proposed to develop common approaches and requirements to ensure the quality of training and assessment of students’ knowledge, to determine the minimum requirements for the level of training of students enrolled in the program. In addition, the Egyptian side proposed to think about expanding educational cooperation both through the training of students studying in the program «Architecture», and through the participation of ISTU students in short-term educational programs and joint projects held in Egyptian-Russian University.

At the end of the discussion and exchange of views, the parties signed a new agreement on cooperation within the framework of the double degree programs. The agreement was signed by ERU President Prof. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdelnaby and by the Senior Vice-Rector Dr. Alexander Gubert. The agreement, which has been previously verified and approved by the Ministry of Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was worked out and signed in three languages – English, Arabic and Russian.

Finally, the representatives of Kalashnikov ISTU awarded the diplomas of our university to the first ERU graduates of the program, who, for various reasons, failed to receive them in 2016.
