What robots are created by Egyptian students?
On June 28 bachelor students in Mechatronics and Robotics of Institute of International Study Programs defended their graduation projects.
In white shirts and ironed out trousers… They have been preparing and waiting! The student Ismail Adham shared:
— I am very nervous. I am afraid that technical problems can happen and worry about additional questions from the committee. I’ll immediately fly back home, to Egypt after the defense and then I’ll return to Russia — to proceed with master studies.
The teachers have also been preparing for this day and waiting for it — international students are coming to Kalashnikov ISTU to get knowledge and real practical skills. They study programming here, obtain comprehensive knowledge in microcontrollers, microprocessor engineering, electronics, drivers and design of mechatronic systems. Our university also has a unique research-training laboratory — «Mobile Systems». For many students this laboratory and practice were the key reasons to come to Izhevsk.
Chairman of Qualification Committee — Deputy Chief Technological Engineer in Development of Kalashnikov Group, Candidate of Technical Science (PhD) Anton Petrov, a graduate of Department of Mechatronic Systems.
The graduation projects were prepared and presented in English, the interpretation during the defense was made by Sergey Babushkin, Deputy Director of Center of International Academic Cooperation.
Yury Nikitin, Candidate of Technical Science (PhD), Associate Professor of Department of Mechatronic Systems pointed out:
— The majority of graduates presented practicable projects. The best project today was the joint work by Elshimy Youssef Hassan Mamdouh Zaky and Hassanein Mahmoud Hussein Attay Elsayed who invented an umbrella drone. This device is following a human whenever he or she goes and protects from bad weather, such as show, hail or rain. An interesting project!
Another interesting project, specific for Egypt — a mobile robot for discovering hidden spaces and tunnels in Egyptian pyramids. The pyramids are nearly 4000 years old but archeologists are still not sure if all their secrets have been studied.
But we are especially proud of the graduates who defended their projects here a week ago — all of them received excellent grades. Their projects were connected with modeling robots with the help of powerful software ROS, Gazebo. They are future engineers — not only IT specialists, but also specialists in electronics and mechanical engineering, who are much in demand at the labor market today. Many graduation projects were connected with drones — flying robots. Today, all students defended their projects well and received excellent and good grades!
