This autumn is very fruitful for our university

2013 11 06 1This academic year started with the arrival of Martin Horn, a teacher of Czech language from South Moravian Centre for International Mobility in Brno. Martin teaches Czech language in the Institute of Translators of our university. Classes are held both for beginners and for those who continue study of this language. Also there are classes for pupils.



ISTU in GWC rating

Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University is reckoned among the top universities in information and communication capabilities of home web-pages of universities. And now it takes the 174th position in the world classification carried out in the framework of the First International Program “Global World Communicator (GWC): Education and Science”.


Teams of Kalashnikov ISTU reached the semifinal of World Championship in programming

1In Yekaterinburg the first quarterfinal of student teams World Championship in programming (ACM ICPC) in East sub-region NEERC finished. For teams, presenting our city, this selection round has been taking place in Ural Federal University named after B.N. Yeltsin, Yekaterinburg for years.

42 teams participated in the competition, including 5 teams from Izhevsk: four from Kalashnikov ISTU, one from Udmurt State University.

Results of programmers of our university can be considered as successful: they took places in the first half of standings. The result of the first team (Burlakov, Smirnov, Sutygin) inspires respect – they took the second place, being surrounded by representatives of the hosts.


2nd Students International Olympiad in MMS


On October 12-13 the second Students International Olympiad in Mechanism and Machine Science (SIOMMS – 2013) took place in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

SIOMMS is held by the decision of Executive Board of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Sciences – IFToMM. The first Student International Olympiad in Mechanism and Machine Science took place in April 2011 in Izhevsk State Technical University with the support of IFToMM, which brings together scientists from 48 countries around the world. Eight Russian and nine foreign teams participated there.

Participants of SIOMMS-2013 were 15 teams from the universities of 7 countries: six teams from China, three teams from Russia (Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University, Chuvash State University n.a. I.N. Ulyanov, Samara State Aerospace university n.a. S.P. Korolev), two teams from Japan and by one team from Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain. 47 students carried out competitive tasks.

Susan Dugdale from Wellington (New Zealand) taught courses of English language training in the Institute of Translators of our university. Susan Dugdale is the E-connections manager of Thomson Reuters New Zealand, the author of original methods of professional diction and phonetics training, as well as speechwriter, producer of Drama Theatre, anchorwoman of announcer courses on the national TV and so on.

On October 9, 2013 Susan Dugdale and her husband Murray John Dugdale, the owner of the construction company “Strait Building Projects”, met with Vladimir Khvorenkov, Vice-Rector for Education and representatives of Kalashnikov ISTU administration.

The vice-rector thanked the guests for their visit and noted that Kalashnikov ISTU is actively developing international relations, it has long-term partners from Eastern Europe and Africa, and “undoubtedly we are happy to expand our contacts to New Zealand”.


Competition in programming starts at ISTU

normal bdfBGv8RzzkOn September 11, 2013 XII Sport Intelligent Competition on Programming starts at Kalashnikov ISTU.

The program includes game rounds, problem analysis, lectures of scientists, presentations of sponsors and cultural program. According to the results, the winners will be traditionally determined not only in overall ranking, but in individual categories and tournaments: sponsors’ prizes (NPO “Computer” and SKB Kontur), and the holders of the Cup of the President of Udmurt Republic which will take place for the third time).


A cool program!

2013 09 11 01This summer 4 brave students from the Faculty of Heat Engineering successfully defended bachelor graduation projects at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Suderburg, Germany) on the double degree program.

Alena Tcyplenkova, Nikita Aimashev, Artur Cherepanov and Konstantin Lozin having studied at Kalashnikov ISTU on the program “Water and power supply for populated areas” for 6 semesters, continued their education for 2 semesters in Ostfalia on the program “Water supply and hydraulic engineering construction” and successfully defended bachelor graduation projects.


Summer school for Egyptian students

2013 08 31 01Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University is hosting students from our partner university in Badr City – Egyptian-Russian University. At the moment, 6 students in mechatronics and 2 students in civil engineering are taking courses at Kalashnikov ISTU. During the summer semester (or a so-called “summer school”) the Egyptian students will attend 2 courses in English during 6 weeks and take the exams afterwards.

Moreover, other 6 students will come to us in the beginning of August to take the course “Cisco – CCNA Discovery”.


Russian Engineer – a Graduate of Slovak University

2013 07 26 01Alexander Mokrushin, a MSc of Kalashnikov ISTU has become the first graduate of the master program at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín (Slovak Republic).

Denis Arsentyev, the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Slovak Republic participated in the graduation ceremony. He congratulated the university in the person of its Rector doc. Ing. Jozef Habánik with this event and expressed the confidence in further successful development of international cooperation between Russian and Slovak universities.


National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic

The results of the National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic for the academic year 2013-2014 have been published. Among the holders of the scholarships funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic are three representatives of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University.


Universology: Definitions, Issues and Concepts

On June 27, 2013, the First Conference "Universology: Definitions, Issues and Concepts" was held at the Institute of Professional Translation of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University (Kalashnikov ISTU).


Center of Surface Processing Technologies is open!

2013 06 20 img2611On June 18 the International Collective Research Center “Center of Surface Processing Technologies” was solemnly opened at Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University.

The International Center has been organized for theoretical and practical training of students and retraining of people from industry specializing in galvanization. The advanced environmentally friendly technologies are realized in the Center.

The Center of Surface Processing Technologies has been established on the reciprocally principles between our university, HTW Aalen, Germany, Zeh GmbH, Stuttgart, Germany and MKV GmbH, Allersberg, Germany.


Targeted at specific results

img15 1 13On June 12 the agreement for a double degree was signed between Kalashnikov ISTU and Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic.

The delegation of our strategic partner – Brno University of Technology – has been working in Izhevsk from June 11 to June 15, 2013. The delegation is very representational: Karel Rais, Rector, Petr Štěpánek, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development, Irena Armutidisová, Vice-Rector for Marketing and External Relations, Miroslav Doupovec, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Petra Navrátilová, Director of the Center of Education and Counseling and Josef Jirkal, Head of the Marketing Department.


Research partnership

research partnership1During the visit of our delegation to Brno, Czech Republic, Rector Prof. Boris Yakimovich and director of CEITEC BUT Prof. Ing. Radimir Vrba, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology is a joint project of the Brno University of Technology, Masaryk University and five other partner institutions in Brno. CEITEC is to build a modern high-tech scientific research center in Brno. It is responsible for two research programs: Advanced Nanotechnologies and Microtechnologies and Advanced Materials.


A new partner

Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University continues to extend collaboration in Europe. This time – in Germany.

On May 13, 2013 the delegation of our university – Alexander Elensky, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Accreditation and Andrei Nedobukh, Head of the Department of Scientific-Technical Translation and Intercultural Communication visited Aalen University (Hochschule Aalen für Technik und Wirtschaft – HTW Aalen).  Being currently the strongest university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg in regard to research, HTW Aalen is built on two strong pillars: technology and business. Targeted at practice, the university trains highly skilled specialists at 5 faculties:


The International Universities Conference

WP 20130422 002Under the inspiring motto “Boundless Education” the second annual International Universities Conference organized by EEUA took place in Bolshoi Petrovskiy Hall of the President hotel in Moscow. The event was visited by about 83 universities, i.e. 97 participants, who conducted the total of 630 pre-scheduled appointments with interested parties during the 2 days of the conference.

On the first day all participants indulged in informative sessions concerning the current issues of educational systems of Russia and CIS countries, as well as different student mobility programs. The second day of the conference was highlighted by an exceptionally informative speech devoted to World University Rankings delivered by Phil Baty, Editor of Times Higher Education Rankings, as well as a presentation on behalf of Sochi Olympics Organizing Committee.


On business, WTO and law

b wto a l 2On May 22, 2013 the experts from Geneva (Switzerland) read two lectures at the Faculty of Management and Marketing of Kalashnikov ISTU: Gertrude Nimako-Boateng, Executive Director of International Trade Institute for West Africa (lecture: “The multilateral trading system: the rights and obligations of WTO member states”) and Roy Damary, Professor of Economics, President of Russian-Swiss Club, President of INSAM: the Graduate Institute of Business and Management, founder of Geopolitical Research Foundation “Geopol Services S.A.”, member of Coordination Council of the International Union of Economists (lecture: “The encouragement of innovation: macro- and microeconomics complement each other”). Our Swiss guests read the lectures in English but they speak Russian well.


Rector of Kalashnikov ISTU – three-time Doсtor Honoris Causa

img01Rector of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University Boris Yakimovich is awarded the title Doсtor Honoris Causa of Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic.

The official ceremony took place in the Rectorate of Brno University of Technology on May 20, 2013. Among the guests of the ceremony was the General Consul of the Russian Federation in Brno Andrei Sharashkin.


Slovakia is getting closer

In the framework of the cooperation agreement between Kalashnikov ISTU and Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín our university hosted the group from Slovak Republic from 17 April to 11 May, 2013.

Two professors (Ján Zápotočný and Lukaš Bridík) read lectures to undergraduate and master students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Kalashnikov ISTU entitled “Application of lasers in machine part manufacturing technology” and “Increasing the barrel surface hardness from the point of improving the small arms quality”, respectively.


Students from Croatia

students from croatia logoOn May 02, 2013 two 1-year master students from our partner University of Zadar, Croatia came to our university to study. Marina Premeru and Petra Sinovcic are majoring in sociology and Russian language and are going to take courses of Russian language and speech standard, lexicography of the Russian language, history of Russia, culture studies, psychology of advertising art and public relations.
